In most Buddhist countries a woman can't be a monk, but some live like one. These women are often supporting the temple and the male monks but live separated from the men.

The temple was painted red a long time ago, but I am not sure if this was the original color when the temple was build around 1100 AD.

This is one of the steep stairs to the center part of Angkor Wat. But it was rarely used to come down. Most people were afraid and used the only stair on the other side that has a rope for support (see picture on the next page).
